Experienced SAW (Submerged Arc Welding) Operator Needed in Durban
Measured Ability is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious SAW (Submerged Arc Welding) Operator to join our team in the eThekwini Central region, covering Durban, Pinetown, and Umlazi. If you have a strong background in heavy steel fabrication and a keen eye for detail, this is an excellent opportunity to contribute your technical expertise to our ongoing projects.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.
- A valid welding qualification or certification is essential.
- A Trade Test in Welding or Boilermaking will be considered a distinct advantage.
- A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience operating SAW (Submerged Arc Welding) equipment within a manufacturing, engineering, or heavy fabrication environment.
- Proven experience working with carbon steel and heavy steel structures.
- Strong ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and complex welding symbols.
- Comprehensive knowledge of welding procedures, industry quality standards, and safety protocols.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring equipment, including tape measures, verniers, and gauges.
Key Responsibilities for the SAW Operator
- Set up and operate Submerged Arc Welding machines to meet rigorous production standards.
- Prepare materials for the welding process by cleaning, aligning, and securely positioning workpieces.
- Execute SAW welding on a variety of components, including structural steel, pressure vessels, beams, and pipes.
- Continuously monitor critical welding parameters such as voltage, amperage, travel speed, and wire feed to ensure consistency.
- Conduct thorough visual inspections of finished welds to guarantee compliance with technical specifications.
- Perform necessary grinding, gouging, and finishing tasks to finalize components.
- Manage consumables by replacing welding wire, flux, and contact tips as the job requires.
- Conduct routine maintenance and daily safety inspections on all assigned welding equipment.
- Strictly adhere to all health, safety, and quality regulations to maintain a secure and professional work environment.
- Keep the workspace organized and clean at all times.
- Promptly report any equipment faults, quality discrepancies, or safety hazards to management.
- Collaborate effectively with fitters, boilermakers, inspectors, and supervisors to meet production deadlines and quality targets.
