Experienced Heidelberg Cylinder Operator Needed in Durban

Measured Ability is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Heidelberg Cylinder Operator to join our production team in the eThekwini Central region, covering Durban, Pinetown, and Umlazi. If you have a strong background in commercial or packaging lithographic printing and take pride in precision work, we would like to hear from you.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric) qualification.
• A formal certificate or relevant training in Printing Technology is considered an advantage.
• A minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on experience operating a Heidelberg Cylinder printing press.
• Proven experience within a commercial, packaging, or lithographic printing environment.
• Strong technical understanding of print production processes, including ink mixing, colour matching, and print registration.
• Ability to read and interpret complex production specifications and work tickets.
• Solid mechanical aptitude with effective troubleshooting skills.
• A firm grasp of quality control procedures and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to perform under pressure to meet tight production deadlines.

Key Responsibilities for the Heidelberg Cylinder Operator

• Set up and operate Heidelberg Cylinder printing machinery efficiently.
• Interpret job cards, production orders, and technical specifications to ensure output matches client requirements.
• Prepare the machine for production by installing plates, adjusting rollers, and precisely setting ink levels.
• Perform hourly machine setups according to the work ticket requirements.
• Monitor print quality throughout the run to ensure registration accuracy, colour consistency, and flawless results.
• Execute routine machine adjustments to ensure optimal performance and complete runs according to the production schedule.
• Conduct daily machine inspections, routine preventative maintenance, and thorough cleaning to ensure safety and longevity.
• Troubleshoot mechanical or printing issues on the fly to minimize downtime.
• Handle the cutting of all work as required by the production flow.
• Manage general administration, including maintaining accurate production records and reporting machine faults.
• Minimize material waste through efficient machine operation and careful monitoring.
• Maintain a clean and safe workspace in adherence to health, safety, and 5S standards.
• Collaborate closely with the quality control and finishing departments to ensure all specifications are met.
